The Ross Hicks Trio

The Ross Hicks trio are on tour promoting their new album "Three Elms". This rosshicksconsists of a series of compositions by Ross Hicks described in the JazzMan as an "intelligent and intriguing piece of writing". Ross Hicks is a graduate from the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama and has since been a full time freelance musician working in and around Wales with numerous bands.

Joining him on drums is Alex Goodyear, himself a graduate from the RWCMD; band leader and composer with a unique memorable drumming stye. He is a regular on the UK Jazz scene and has appearedalexgoodyear at numerous Aberjazz events with the likes of Yetti, Huw Warren and Victoria Klewin.

The trio is made up by Nick Kacal is a Bassist originally from Trinidad now living in South Wales, he has been a nick kacalsideman on the UK music scene for years playing predominantly jazz and acoustic folk and occasionally touring to places such as Cape Verde, France and Spain.

The Patrick Barrett-Donlon Quartet

Led by Cardiff-based drummer-composer Patrick Barrett-Donlon, the Quartet focuses on the repertoire of the earlier pioneers of jazz and the genius of their music, arrangements and playing.

Patrick Barrett-Donlon is a British-Irish musician, drummer, composer and educator based in Cardiff.  He has also played at venues and festivals spanning the UK and Ireland, including Pizza Express in Soho and the Brecon Jazz Festival.

His quartet features Huw Llewellyn (trumpet), Benedict Stephens (bass) and Newman Tai (piano).  Their programme highlights the masterful compositions and arrangements of rhythm section players who led their bands from ‘the back’.

They will be celebrating the music of Bennie Moten, Walter Page, Count Basie, Papa Jo Jones, Ray Brown and Max Roach amongst others.

Expect an evening of exciting arrangements, soulful melodies and stomping swing.Led by Cardiff-based drummer-composer Patrick Barrett-Donlon, this quartet focuses on the repertoire of the earlier pioneers of jazz and the genius of their music, arrangements and playing.
